JCPM Institute Ideathon

Empowering communities through a innovation ideathon

In August 2019, the IJCPM Ideathon (Maratona de Ideias) in Recife (PE, Brazil) immersed 60 participants aged 16 to 30 in design, technology, and entrepreneurship. Promoted by the Instituto JCPM de Compromisso Social, the event aimed to foster innovation and empower local youth to develop solutions for real-world challenges in their communities.

To conceptualize the ideathon, I followed the question: How introduce young people from Recife to the world of innovation and digital products? Guided by this challenge, participants were encouraged to explore ways to reimagine their neighbourhoods – from improving mobility to enhancing education or housing – using technology and innovative thinking. Through workshops and collaborative problem-solving rooted in design thinking, they explored ways to improve mobility, education, housing, and more using technology.

I provided consultancy to shape the event by:

  • Curating mentors and judges.
  • Implementing the design thinking methodology.
  • Designing and facilitating technical workshops.

The Ideathon strengthened participants’ skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and community engagement, while empowering them to create impactful solutions. This experience allowed me to combine my expertise in design and education, with a commitment to inspiring positive change.
